Clinks, one of the lead organisations sponsoring the Race for Justice Campaign, has been successful in winning funds that will enable it to develop some of the recommendations made in the ‘Less Equal than Others’ Report.
Through the Tackling Race Inequalities Fund, which is a fund established by the Department of Communities and Local Government, Clinks will be able to highlight the well documented discrimination that BAME offenders face when entering the Criminal Justice System, and more importantly begin to look at how access to services might be improved so that re-offending can be better tackled and offenders supported in living crime free lives.
We have commissioned a consortium of the Prison Reform Trust, Dr Corretta Phillips from the London School of Economics and Unlock to undertake TRIF funded research into the resettlement needs of Black and Minority Ethnic offenders. The first part of this research will be a literature review, followed by direct interviews with service users.
We are now publishing a bi-monthly update bulletin to keep stakeholders informed of news, opportunities, funding and events in relation to Black and Minority Ethnic offenders. You can view the latest ebulletin [June 2010] at http://www.raceforjustice.net/equalityebulletin.html
